Electrician (Journeyman) — Job Description & Salary in Germany

Your role

You independently handle installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems at [customers' premises / on construction sites / in-house], working to current VDE standards, and pass on any task that exceeds your own or the business's qualification to the responsible Elektrofachkraft or site management.

Key responsibilities

• Installing, testing and repairing [electrical installations, distribution boards, lighting systems, wallboxes, PV systems] to DIN VDE 0100 and the relevant applicable standards.
• Diagnosing and fixing faults on existing electrical systems, including documenting the work carried out.
• Carrying out recurring inspections under DIN VDE 0105-100 on [existing installations, fixed equipment].
• Estimating, ordering and properly storing materials.
• Coordinating on site with [site management, customers, other trades], including explaining technical matters in plain terms.
• [If applicable] Supervising apprentices on practical tasks.
• Complying with workplace safety regulations (DGUV Vorschrift 3) and reporting safety shortcomings.

Profile

• Required: completed training as an Elektroniker/in ([energy and building technology / industrial systems] or equivalent) with a journeyman's certificate (Gesellenbrief); Elektrofachkraft status under DGUV Vorschrift 3; confident day-to-day application of VDE standards; Class B driving licence.
• Desired: [0 to 5] years of experience after training; an additional qualification in [photovoltaics, EV charging infrastructure, building automation, smart home]; experience with direct customer contact.
• Disqualifying: no verifiable proof of Elektrofachkraft qualification; a careless attitude to safety rules; unwillingness to work independently without constant supervision.
