LinkedIn requires a truthful advert for one role, a visible location, a company-domain contact address and complete job information. It prohibits candidate fees, discriminatory criteria, unauthorised reposting and early requests for sensitive personal data. Internships and volunteer roles must disclose their status, while third-party posting requires the necessary employer relationship.
Pre-publication checklist
LinkedIn publishes rules an advert has to meet, and an ad that misses one can be rejected after you have paid for it. The requirements below are the ones that change how you write the posting — the linked pages are the full and current version.
- One advert, one vacancy. Bundling several openings into a single post, or running an open call for applications, is not allowed.
- The primary location of the role has to be visible in the advert itself, along with any travel or relocation expectations.
- The contact address has to sit on the hiring company's own domain, alongside a working website and a physical address.
- Candidates may never be asked to pay a fee at any point in the process.
- Photos, identity documents and similar personal data may not be demanded at the application stage.
- The description is expected to run to roughly 500–600 words — shorter posts are treated as incomplete.
- Posting on behalf of another company requires an active recruiting contract with that company — a posting-only arrangement is not enough.
- Adverts copied from a company's own careers site may not be republished without that company's knowledge and authorisation.
- Internships and volunteer positions have to state plainly whether they are paid or unpaid.
- The advert may not screen on protected characteristics. The policy names age, gender and gender identity, religion, ethnicity, race, national origin, disability and sexual orientation. Local employment law applies on top of this and is the stricter test in most markets.

Common rejection reasons and fixes
| Reason | What to change |
|---|---|
| One advert promotes several positions or unrelated openings. | Split the demand into one LinkedIn advert per vacancy, with its own title, location and description. |
| The contact address uses a public mailbox or does not match the hiring company. | Use an authorised address on the employer's company domain and verify the company association. |
| The description is incomplete, discriminatory or asks for fees or sensitive data. | Complete the role information and remove any criterion, payment or early data request that LinkedIn's policies prohibit. |
