Indeed expects one genuine vacancy per advert, an accurate title and location, stated pay, a usable application route and no discriminatory criteria or candidate fees. The employer must be authorised to hire for the role. Check these points before distribution, because added visibility cannot repair an advert that fails the board's quality rules.

Pre-publication checklist

Indeed publishes rules an advert has to meet, and an ad that misses one can be rejected after you have paid for it. The requirements below are the ones that change how you write the posting — the linked pages are the full and current version.

  • One advert, one vacancy. Bundling several openings into a single post, or running an open call for applications, is not allowed.
  • Pay has to be stated as an hourly or salaried figure. "Competitive" on its own does not satisfy the rule.
  • Candidates may never be asked to pay a fee at any point in the process.
  • The primary location of the role has to be visible in the advert itself, along with any travel or relocation expectations.
  • The title is the name of the job as it would appear on a business card — no locations, keywords or slogans bolted on.
  • Applying has to be straightforward. Routing candidates through extra sign-ups or off-site steps can get the ad removed.
  • Whoever posts must be authorised by the company doing the hiring, and able to answer for the role.
  • The ad has to say whether the hiring company or an agency is behind it, along with the true location and duties.
  • Re-posting the same role to look fresh, or spreading it across more locations than it is actually offered in, is not allowed.
  • The advert may not screen on protected characteristics. The policy names age, gender and gender identity, religion, ethnicity, race, national origin, disability and sexual orientation. Local employment law applies on top of this and is the stricter test in most markets.

Common rejection reasons and fixes

ReasonWhat to change
The title contains promotional language, locations or keyword stuffing.Replace it with the recognised name of the role and put location or selling points in their proper fields.
The advert combines several roles or keeps reappearing as a duplicate.Create one advert for one active vacancy and update the original instead of reposting it for artificial freshness.
Pay, location or the application route is missing or misleading.Add accurate employment terms, the primary work location and a complete route for submitting a candidature.

Questions

Does Indeed require salary information in a job advert?
Indeed's published guidelines expect wages to be stated. Use the real range or rate for the vacancy rather than a vague promise such as competitive pay.
Can an agency advertise a client's vacancy on Indeed?
Yes when the agency is authorised to recruit for the role and discloses its position. Republishing another employer's advert without authority is not acceptable.
Can one Indeed advert contain several vacancies?
No. Use one advert for one genuine, currently available role so its title, location, pay and application route all describe the same vacancy.
Can an employer repost the same Indeed vacancy?
Update the existing advert when the same vacancy remains open. Reposting duplicates to make a role appear newer can breach Indeed's quality guidance.
