Hiring debrief

A hiring debrief is a structured discussion in which an interview team compares recorded evidence, resolves material differences, and agrees on a next action.

Also called: debrief, post-interview discussion

Compare evidence before impressions

A debrief is a discussion about evidence already collected against the role’s criteria. Each interviewer should be able to point to what they observed, the criterion it relates to, and any limit on that observation. The OPM’s structured-interview guidance describes individual ratings followed by discussion of material discrepancies.

End with a real next action

Agreement can mean advancing, declining, seeking a reference, or collecting missing evidence. It need not force a hire-or-no-hire decision when an important question remains unanswered. Record the action, its owner, and the criterion it is meant to clarify.
