GDPR Data Protection Officer Job Ad Template

Spot the difference

Writing a job ad that attracts the right candidates is hard work, especially if you’re not that familiar with the role yourself. For example, how is a GDPR Data Protection Officer different from a Risk Manager or a Legal Advisor? How about from a Legal Secretary or a Paralegal? By knowing the differences in tasks and responsibilities you have a higher chance of creating a job ad that attracts the best talent for your job.

In short; GDPR Data Protection Officers ensure the company complies with GDPR guidelines, a Risk Manager researches to assess a company’s risk in certain areas. Legal Advisors provide general legal advice and draft employee contracts. Legal Secretaries and Paralegals support lawyers through administrative support or pre-trial preparations.

  • A GDPR Data Protection Officer (often shortened to DPO) ensures a company complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Responsibilities range from the internal implementation of a data handling strategy to advising external clients on data protection law issues.
  • Legal Advisors help clients with more general legal advice as well as ensuring a company meets the legal requirements and responsibilities. They might draft employee contracts, deal with harassment suits, or ensure the latest construction laws are adhered to during a company’s office expansion.
  • A Legal Secretary generally provides administrative support to lawyers. They assist them with a variety of tasks ranging from client communication and screening to writing case briefs or transcribing meetings.
  • The work of a Paralegal is similar to that of a Legal Secretary in that they support one or more lawyers, but their tasks and responsibilities do differ significantly. Whereas a Legal Advisor provides administrative support, a Paralegal helps the lawyer prepare for trial. This includes tasks such as performing legal research into cases and laws or filing appeals.
  • Risk Managers need to be highly analytical as their job is to research and assess a company’s risk in a certain area (e.g. legal or financial). Their responsibility is to try and predict potential risks and to provide contingency plans to both prevent and mitigate such risks.

Need inspiration?

Your job description will not attract talent all on its own. So when putting together your job post, be sure to show what it's like working at your company not just textually but visually!

  • Remember, attracting a candidate is just as much about your company culture as the job role itself. Make sure to include points that make you seem desirable too!
  • Add photos that show off your office space, team events and your team having a great time.
  • Maybe you could include a video of some team members explaining why they love coming to work, or why they like their role.
  • Include a grid of attractive perks with some nice illustrations. Maybe you have unlimited holidays, or you have an attractive parental leave cover - show off!
  • Why not embed your company's Instagram feed to give a IRL overview of the day-to-day.
