What is in a Material Handler’s job description?

A Material Handler is an organised individual who can work unsupervised and on their feet for long periods. They will be responsible for unpacking orders from a delivery, checking over the quality of the materials or merchandise received, and transporting them to the relevant place in the warehouse. It will be their job to verify that all expected materials are present and accounted for, as well as report any discrepancies.

Essential parts of a Material Handler’s job description:

  • Different Material Handlers will be trained in dealing with different materials. Some will work with hazardous materials and some won’t. The right training will be needed in any case.
  • Material Handlers will often work with Warehouse or Logistics Managers, so they know when to expect deliveries. They will also receive information this way on where different materials need to be moved to.
  • Some Material Handlers will need to be licenced to operate different types of machinery.
  • Typical employers include warehouses, factories, wholesale facilities, storage facilities and e-commerce businesses.
