Spot the difference

Creating good job adverts is the first step to bringing real talent into your business. However, it can be a tough task if you’re not fully sure of the responsibilities and requirements of the role! What is a DevOps Engineer, for example? What is the difference between a Front End and Back End Developer?

To put it simply, a DevOps Engineer oversees the processes of the development team, including testing and analysing produced code. A Front End Developer works on coding the area of a site or software that a user sees, while a Back End Developer will work ‘behind the scenes’ ensuring the product functions properly on the system side.

  • DevOps Engineers are experts in development processes. They will work with a development team in ensuring any processes and procedures are as streamlined and simple as possible. They can test and analyse the code that the developers are producing and can project manage any big projects that the team are working on.
  • Web Developers are coding experts that will work on the look and feel of a website or web application. They work closely with designers and developers to add new features to a site and ensure it is recognisable to the businesses customers. 
  • Back End Developers work ‘system side’ on a site or software, helping develop code that provides a seamless user experience. They work closely with the Front End Developer team to provide a fully functional and enjoyable product.
  • Front End Developers work with Java, HTML and CSS among other programming languages to improve the functionality and aesthetic of a software and service. They communicate closely with design teams to help their visions become a reality.

  • This means you won’t need to read through too many CVs to find your superstar.
