Spot the difference

Writing job ads is hard work, especially now we’re living within such a fast paced and exponential society. What’s the difference between an Auditor and a Controller, anyway? Don’t a Financial Advisor and a Financial Analyst do practically the same tasks? Getting your job ad wrong can cost you a lot of time and effort in the long run, make sure you get it right.

In short, an Auditor is the bookkeeper, a Controller - general finances, your Tax Advisor does your taxes (yay!) Accountants track the past, the Analyst is the investor.

  • An Auditor is responsible for the bookkeeping across the entire company including financial statements, documents and data. They analyse reporting systems, account balances, balance sheets and more.  
  • The Controller looks after the general finances of a company. They’re responsible for processes, payroll, inventory and compliance. 
  • While a Tax Advisor is fairly straightforward - they keep your taxes in check. 
  • A Financial Accountant focuses on past finances and improving those, they’re the trackers of your finances. They also report to management about any discrepancies.  
  • The Analyst generally does most of the research and looks towards the future, they look after all your investments.

· Develop policies and procedures that comply with current legislation.
· Analyse, evaluate, develop and implement new control systems to optimise operations and utilise new technologies.

Requirements

· An academic background and qualification in accounting, finance, business administration, economics or similar.
· 3+ years experience in internal/external auditing, as well as being able to work within a fast paced and ever changing start-· up environment.
· Communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills with the ability to interact with business partners.
· A results oriented mindset, you have the ability to mentor team members, educate departments and develop talent.
· Problem solving skills that demonstrate critical and logical thinking to reach solutions.
· Analytical skills and a high attention to detail.
· Knowledge of regulatory requirements applying to financial institutions; KWG, MaRisk, CRR, WpIG, WpHG, MiFIR.
· Project Management experience would be a bonus but not essential.
· Fluency in English is a must, any other language skills would be an advantage.
