Spot the difference

Hiring the best talent means that your job adverts need to be the best, too. But how can you ensure that this is the case if you’re not too sure of a role’s requirements and responsibilities? What does an Android Developer do, for example? And what makes them different to a Web Developer or a Full Stack Developer?

In short, an Android Developer is an experienced coder who works to produce code for Android applications. This differs from a Web Developer, who writes and implements code for websites and applications. A Full Stack Developer is similar to a Web Developer, in that they produce code that can be used for the system side and user-facing side of a software or site.

  • Android Developers specialise in writing code that produces applications suitable for Android phones. They’re responsible for testing, debugging and improving their applications, and will usually work closely with a UI/UX team to help with this.
  • Web Developers produce code that assists with the production and maintenance of a website or web application. They work closely with Web Designers to help improve the look and feel of a site.
  • Full Stack Developers are coding experts who can work with user-facing programming languages like Java and CSS, as well as back-end languages like Python. They often manage communication between the development team due to their extensive knowledge.
  • DevOps Engineers help to streamline and improve the processes in a development team, often helping to manage and coordinate big projects. They’ll be knowledgeable in multiple coding languages and able to test and analyse code.

Job Ad Template

  • Be clear in your description. Know the tasks of the role and ideally who the candidate should be.
  • This means you won’t need to read through too many CVs to find your superstar.
  • You might be tempted to use bullet points in this section, but resist the urge! Tell a story, show off all the cool things they would be responsible for, and get them excited to apply.
  • You should be more focused on your company culture and what your mission is, instead of their daily tasks.

  • Hard skills in this section are important, but don’t overlook the significance of soft skills, like communication and being a team player, these can make a huge difference to the way people work alongside each other and gel professionally.

  • This would waste both your time and the potential candidate so avoid being wordy as much as possible. Think about what would be an essential part of this role, and what would the applicant need to be successful in the job?


Keep in mind, these are examples of an Android Developer’s skills and requirements. You may have other requirements of the role which should be added when adjusting the job description.

• Knowledge of Android SDK, Android NDK and Java.
• Other coding languages are a plus.
• Experience with producing or maintaining at least one Android App.
• Proven experience working with design teams.
• Ability to use various testing tools.
• Excellent attention to detail is necessary.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines.
• A qualification in computer science, development or other relevant qualification is a plus.

  • Remember, attracting a candidate is just as much about your company culture as the job role itself. Make sure to include points that make you seem desirable too!
