Tell me about a project that didn’t go to plan. What did you do and how did you learn from it?
This will highlight a candidate’s weaknesses and also give you an insight into their ability to learn and grow.
Describe a time when you have had to deal with a difficult customer or client.
Painters occasionally have to communicate with customers directly, knowing they can do this and overcome any issues in this area is a huge asset.

This answer will give you insight into which tools a candidate has used already and which they will need training with.
Which painting materials have you used most in the past?
Again, this allows you to assess a candidate’s skill experience with your current business activities.
Have you received any formal construction safety training?
This is an important Painter interview question if your candidate will be working on a new build site or construction site.
Do you have any training in niche painting areas or design areas?
This will give you an idea of any specialised skills your candidate will be bringing onto the team.

A candidate can mention negotiating to a design they feel comfortable with or working with their colleagues to find someone who could manage the design.
Imagine you make a mistake in the middle of a project, what are your next steps?
The candidate should be able to mention a step-by-step process that minimises disruption and brings the project back on track.
Imagine your colleague completes some work that isn’t up to your standard, how do you react?
Your candidate should prioritise quality above everything. Here they should mention calmly discussing the improvements with their teammate and showing them the correct way to complete the task.
