Tasks

Internship project title:

"Bridging the Gap: Understanding Quality & Trust Issues Between Solar Clients and Vendors in PM Surya Ghar Scheme"

Project Objective:

To study and document the common problems faced by both residential clients and solar vendors during rooftop solar installation under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and to provide actionable recommendations to enhance quality assurance, transparency, and trust in the solar ecosystem.

Key Learning Outcomes for Students:

  • Real-world exposure to solar installation business challenges
  • Understanding of client behavior, trust dynamics, and service delivery gaps
  • Research, interview, and data synthesis skills
  • Proposal writing and policy-level recommendation skills

Key Activities:

  1. Client-Side Study
  • Interview at least 10 homeowners who have installed rooftop solar (or applied under the scheme)
  • Prepare a questionnaire covering:
  • Installation satisfaction
  • Vendor behavior & professionalism
  • Timeliness and quality of work
  • Post-installation service experience
  • Net metering & subsidy issues
  • Collect feedback on trust issues, hidden costs, miscommunication, etc.

Vendor-Side Study

  • Interview at least 5 local vendors/installer companies
  • Collect data on:
  • Common client-side misunderstandings
  • Documentation and approval delays
  • Manpower issues or cost pressure
  • Challenges in subsidy payments or DISCOM coordination
  • Competition from low-quality players
  • Ask about their after-sales service model, pain points, and suggestions

Gap Analysis

  • Compare both perspectives
  • Identify 5–7 critical mismatch areas (e.g., communication gap, unrealistic client expectations, missing service warranties, etc.)

Solution Recommendations

Students should propose:

  • A “Standard Installation Checklist” for clients
  • A basic vendor rating system (prototype or wireframe)
  • Suggestions for DISCOM/vendor/client coordination improvement
  • Optional: A mini app/dashboard idea for quality control or complaint redressal

Deliverables:

  1. Research Report (PDF/Word)
  2. Interview Summary Annexure
  3. Problem-Solution Map or Infographic
  4. Presentation Slides (for final review)
  5. Optional: Prototype (mockup or wireframe of proposed tool)

Suggested Mentorship/Support:

  • Invite a local solar installer or vendor to do a live Q&A
  • Allow students to submit weekly progress logs
  • Offer a bonus certificate if students submit a working prototype or survey dataset.
  • Industry mentor/guide will be provided throughout the internship.

Timeline:

3/4/5/6 weeks or as as per student requirement.
