Freelance Video Editor for New Earth Science YouTube Channel

Are you passionate about storytelling through visual media? Join us at Astrum-Earth, a new sister channel to Astrum, one of the largest astronomy channels on YouTube with over 2 million subscribers. While Astrum captivates audiences with educational and high-quality content about space, Astrum-Earth will focus on Earth-related disciplines, including geology, biology, oceanography, and more.

We are looking for talented and creative Freelance Video Editors to join our remote production team. The ideal candidates will have a background in video editing and a genuine interest in Earth sciences. Experience editing documentaries will be considered a valuable asset.

• Edit and produce high quality long-form videos, blending live action and animation footage, using video editing software.
• Proactively source, select, and import relevant media elements (videos, images, audio) to enhance the storytelling and overall video production.
• Work independently to develop creative visions for video content, demonstrating initiative and producing high-quality work with minimal guidance.
• Colaborate with the scriptwriters, VO artists, and 3D artists to ensure the content is cohesive, engaging, and aligned with the project’s vision.
• Maintain and elevate the tone of voice from the original Astrum channel, while pushing the quality and editing style to a higher standard.
• Implement sound design and integrate audio elements effectively to complement the visuals and enhance the viewer’s experience.
• Ensure all assets used are rights-cleared and compliant with legal requirements.
• Independently manage, organize, and maintain video footage, assets, and archives, ensuring smooth production workflows.

• Experience in video editing with a strong showreel, particularly in documentary-style content (3+ years is preferred but not essential).
• Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and the Creative Cloud suite, with the ability to independently edit and enhance footage.
• Strong storytelling abilities with a focus on documentary-style editing and narrative structure.
• Creative and self-sufficient, with the ability to source and select appropriate stock footage and elements without much guidance.
• Familiarity with YouTube and other social media platforms, with a solid understanding of optimizing content for various platforms (not essential but beneficial).
• A passion for Earth sciences and the ability to simplify and communicate complex concepts in an engaging way for a broad audience.
• Experience in sound design and integrating audio elements effectively into video projects.
• Excellent attention to detail, with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Previous experience editing documentaries is an advantage.
