About us

Areas of reasearch at the JBI?

The research projects in the JBI focus essentially on disease-oriented projects in the field of vegetative physiology and pathophysiology, whereby the various topics and working groups are always linked by commonalities in terms of content and/or method. The JBI scientists therefore represent a large working group with a certain internal structure. This philosophy ensures that demanding and contemporary projects can be carried out and that young scientists receive a broader education.

Teaching?

In teaching, the institute represents the entire spectrum of physiology and pathophysiology. Our courses are intended to enable students to understand the connections and principles of body functions To learn to explain and present pathophysiological/medical facts in a structured manner. Distinguish what is important from what is less important. To recognize and understand simple pathophysiological mechanisms.

Mission

Physiology is the study of the function of the organism. It teaches us what happens to/in a person, why it happens and “what happens” when it stops happening. That means it's about understanding connections and principles, in qualitative and quantitative form, and not so much about the sheer accumulation of facts. Doctors need this understanding in everyday clinical practice as well as research bioscientists - because physiology is ultimately the understanding of the development of diseases, their diagnosis and sometimes even their therapy. Dealing with physiology mainly means acquiring skills and abilities to deal with facts and connections, i.e. learning to think in order to be able to understand.
