We’re looking for a Sound Designer to join our team as we move into full production on our debut game Ardem, an open world survival game developed in Unreal Engine 5.

In this role, you will design, shape, and implement gameplay driven sound systems, working with a combination of created, processed, and library based audio assets. You will mix, adapt, and prepare sounds for in game use, while also implementing them directly in the engine. The role requires a strong technical understanding of game audio, a good sense for atmosphere and gameplay feedback, and close collaboration with design and gameplay engineering.

Techtive Games is an ambitious indie studio based in Germany with a close knit team that focuses on building deep, interconnected gameplay systems and immersive, authentic worlds. We value creativity, ownership, and personal growth. Rather than working through rigid ticket pipelines, our team members are encouraged to actively shape systems, collaborate closely across disciplines, and grow together not only on Ardem, but on future projects as well.

If you enjoy building interactive sound systems, care about how audio supports gameplay and immersion, and are passionate about working on or playing open world survival games, we’d love to hear from you.

Tasks

On a day to day basis, you will:

  • Design, mix, and prepare sound effects using existing libraries and purchased audio assets
  • Build and maintain gameplay related sound systems, such as weapon audio, interaction sounds, and contextual audio behavior
  • Implement sounds directly in Unreal Engine, using MetaSounds as the primary system and Sound Cues where appropriate
  • Set up and refine audio volumes, convolution and reverb spaces, and other spatial audio systems
  • Collaborate closely with Gameplay Engineers to ensure audio systems integrate cleanly with gameplay logic

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a Sound Designer or in a comparable game audio role
  • Strong experience working with game audio systems, not just standalone sound production
  • Solid knowledge of Unreal Engine audio, with a strong focus on MetaSounds
  • Experience working with audio middleware such as FMOD or Wwise
  • Ability to build interactive sound systems, for example context aware weapon sounds, distance based audio behavior, and environmental audio variation
  • Good understanding of spatial audio concepts, including sound volumes, reverb, and convolution spaces
  • Fluent spoken and written English

Bonus Skills

  • Experience working on open world games
  • Experience designing ambient and biome based soundscapes
  • Experience with music integration in games
  • Familiarity with console audio requirements and constraints
  • Experience working in an indie or small team environment

Working Model

  • Fully remote
  • Freelance, with a full time option for candidates based in Germany
  • Flexible working hours with a strong focus on ownership and trust
  • Direct collaboration within a small, focused team

Benefits

  • Work on Ardem, highly anticipated survival game and set a new benchmark
  • Small team with high impact, results-driven mindset and fast decision-making
  • High ownership and creative freedom
  • Flexible working hours (results > green dots)

Please include the following in your application:

  • Your CV and a short introduction about yourself and your background
  • A portfolio (Git repositories, videos, or similar) showcasing recent work
  • A brief description of your role and responsibilities on the showcased projects
  • Your availability and your typical contract rate
