The Special Education Teacher supports students with disabilities in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals. This role involves working closely with special education teachers and therapists to provide one-on-one or small group instruction, classroom support, and assistance with daily living skills.
Tasks
- Support individual students or small groups under the direction of a special education teacher.
- Assist with implementing individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student behavior and progress, documenting observations.
- Modify classroom materials to meet students' needs.
- Support students with physical care needs (e.g., toileting, mobility assistance, feeding) if required.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students during transitions, breaks, or field trips.
- Communicate regularly with teachers and staff regarding student development.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning students and families.
Requirements
- Degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children with special needs in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and the ability to develop and implement them effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
