Optotune is a strongly growing and internationally active optics company based in Dietikon, Switzerland. We develop, manufacture and market the latest generation of adaptive optical elements for industrial- and consumer markets.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our research and development team working on Material’s engineering. This internship will focus on the study of different material compatibilities, and more specifically on the adhesion properties of adhesives on different substrates and surface treatments. The R&D intern will work under the guidance of senior material’s experts to assist with ongoing research, development, and testing of new products. This is a full-time internship position for a duration of a minimum of 6 months, starting as soon as available.
Tasks
- Support finding and selecting the best possible materials in alignment with the Materials Engineering Department according to the project needs and specifications
- Test, investigate and develop new materials and material combinations that are compatible with and enhance our product performance
- Assemble components and evaluate mechanical properties in our laboratory
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to team discussions and problem-solving to propose new analytics and characterization methods
- Write technical documentation required to qualify material properties
- Maintain accurate and organized records of experimental data and results
- Analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and tools
Requirements
- Finished or currently enrolled in an MSc degree in material, physics, mechanical engineering or a related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, German being an asset
- Any experience in surface treatment, adhesive, bonding composite or electronic industry would be a plus
- Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail you like challenges and propose solutions to find the optimal solution
- Previous experience in physical testing, programming and data analysis
- Understanding of basic material’s properties, chemistry and physics principles and laboratory techniques
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
