About us

Fashion Revolution Germany e.V. is the German chapter of Fashion Revolution, the global movement for a clean, safe, fair, transparent and accountable fashion industry. The movement was founded in 2013 by Carry Somers and Orsola de Castro after the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory complex in Bangladesh, which killed more than 1,100 garment workers. Its central question, “Who made my clothes?”, is now asked in over 90 countries.

As a registered non-profit association, Fashion Revolution Germany brings this movement to Germany. Our members are designers, consultants, educators, communication specialists and activists from across the fashion and textile sector, and most of our work is voluntary. We connect consumers, brands, students, researchers, policymakers and civil society to make the social and environmental impacts of fashion visible, and to show practical alternatives.

Our work includes:

  • Coordinating Fashion Revolution Week in Germany each April, around the Rana Plaza anniversary on 24 April
  • Educational formats such as workshops, panel discussions, quizzes and projects with schools and universities
  • Hands-on repair, upcycling and swap formats that extend the life of clothing
  • Projects that bring fashion professionals together around circularity, such as Circular Berlin (Looptopia)
  • Collaborations with fair-fashion brands, retailers and other organisations

With a strong base in Berlin and activities across Germany, Fashion Revolution Germany is a platform for knowledge, exchange and collective action towards a fashion system that respects both people and planet.

Mission

We work towards a fashion industry that protects and regenerates the environment and puts people before growth and profit. Everyone working along the textile value chain, from cotton fields and spinning mills to sewing factories and shops, should be paid fairly, work in safe conditions and be able to speak up without fear.

To get there, we work on three levels:

Transparency: We call on brands and retailers to disclose where and how their products are made and to take responsibility for their supply chains. Only what is visible can be improved.

Education: Knowledge changes behaviour. Through workshops, talks, campaigns and learning materials, we help consumers, students and professionals understand the social and ecological costs of fashion, and we empower them to act.

Change in practice: We promote a circular fashion culture in which clothes are worn longer, repaired, swapped, upcycled and recycled rather than thrown away. We create spaces where people can learn these skills, and where industry, academia, civil society and politics can develop solutions together.

Guided by the Fashion Revolution Manifesto and the question “Who made my clothes?”, we don’t aim to shame individual choices. We aim to shift norms: from overconsumption to care, from opacity to accountability, from linear to circular. Collective action by citizens, designers, businesses and policymakers is what will make fair and sustainable practices the standard rather than the exception.
