This internship will be hosted in cooperation with the Honda Research Institute Europe (HRI).

We are looking for an outstanding Computer Vision / Machine Learning / Data Analytics intern to join us for a 6-12 months internship in our Lausanne office, which can also be a combination of internship and follow-up master thesis, and help us improve the environment understanding pipeline of biped.

biped is a smart harness that uses cameras to help blind and visually impaired people detect potential obstacles and follow navigation instructions. After 2+ years of R&D, 300 beta-testers later, biped is now commercially available all across Europe.

In late 2022, biped partnered with Honda Research Institute Europe to embed some of their algorithms, including a risk estimation model, now part of our obstacle detection pipeline. This internship aims to improve this risk model by taking into account real-life environmental conditions.

## Tasks

As an intern, your responsibilities for improving the risk estimation inside our perception pipeline will include:

*   Designing and developing data annotation and benchmarking tools for the risk estimation model
*   Collecting real-world data in relevant situations
*   Tuning the performance of the model
*   Supporting the development around the integration of the risk estimation into the rest of the perception pipeline
*   Summarising the results of the internship into a possible publication

## Requirements

Your profile:

*   You are ready to learn new things and interested in pushing your code to production
*   You are communicative and upfront about the problems you are facing and you like to work on challenging problems in a team
*   You aim to have a core contribution to a massive problem, you are driven by the impact you want to have on your job
*   You have already gained experience working on challenging problems and have experience writing scientific papers about your approach
*   You are currently pursuing an M.Sc. or you have just graduated with an M.Sc. in Computer Science, Robotics, Maths, or Physics

We are looking for somebody that has significant experience with:

*   Python
*   Basics of Software Development

A plus would be past encounters with:

*   Risk Estimation in the automotive or any other context
*   Working in a Start-Up
