Systems Engineer (m/f/d)

Your Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer (m/f/d) with a strong interest and capability in technical documentation, regulatory compliance and safety systems, to join our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) product development team. This hybrid role bridges engineering in various fields with compliance and customer success by ensuring that our system designs not only perform but are also well-documented and compliant with international standards such as CE and other applicable directives especially german laws and standards.

Your mission

Systems Engineering & Integration

• Support the end-to-end system development of containerized Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), from requirements definition through integration and verification.
• Develop and maintain system-level requirements, ensuring consistency and traceability throughout the development process.
• Contribute to system architecture, interface definitions, design reviews, and system integration.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of structured systems engineering processes.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, software and testing.

Safety Systems Engineering

• Take technical ownership of system-level safety concepts, requirements, and documentation.
• Develop and maintain safety concepts, risk assessments, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate the design and integration of safety-related systems, including:
  • Fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Gas detection and explosion protection.
  • Emergency shutdown functions and safety-related interlocks.
  • Safety interfaces to subsystems.
• Evaluate safety-related components and technical solutions in cooperation with suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
• Support verification and validation of safety-related requirements and functions.

Technical Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain system specifications, safety documentation, risk assessments, and test reports.
• Provide technical input for certification and conformity assessments.
• Prepare and review customer-facing technical documentation, including safety, installation, and system integration requirements.
• Ensure documentation remains consistent with product changes and applicable standards.

Your profile

• Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• At least 3 years of experience in systems engineering, system integration, or safety-related engineering, preferably in energy storage or industrial applications.
• Good understanding of requirements engineering, system interfaces, and structured development processes.
• Experience with safety concepts, risk assessments, and safety-related systems.
• Working knowledge of relevant European and German technical standards and regulations.
• Strong analytical skills and a structured, solution-oriented working approach.
• Fluent in German and English

Nice to Have

• Experience with BESS, power electronics, or industrial energy systems.
• Knowledge of functional safety principles and standards (e.g., IEC 61508).
• Experience with fire protection, gas detection, or explosion protection.
• Familiarity with V-model development and verification processes.
• Experience with certification activities and engineering tools such as EPLAN or CAD systems.
