About Nexun
Backed by Marguerite, a leading pan-European infrastructure fund, Nexun is a fast-growing renewable project development platform active in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Austria. At Nexun, we are passionate advocates for renewable energy as well as grid infrastructure and are committed to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. Join our diverse team to contribute to projects that positively impact communities across Europe.
The Power/Flexibility Markets Analyst leads the commercial development, negotiation, and optimization of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, including both standalone storage assets and co-located solar-plus-storage projects. The role focuses on identifying best value and route-to-market for our projects, forecasting revenue schemes and offtake contracts possibilities (Tolling Agreements, PPAs), optimizing the commercial design of our plants to derisk projects and maximize their value at the point of sale (RTB) based on a solid market and technical understanding of electricity markets and asset configurations, negotiating PPAs and Tolling agreements.
Target countries: Italy and/or Poland as priority - Spain, Austria and France as secondary markets
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of European electricity and flexibility markets, with a particular focus on the priority markets of Italy and/or Poland, including Day-Ahead, Intraday, Ancillary Services, Balancing Markets, Capacity Markets.
Analyze market regulatory developments and assess their impact on BESS and hybrid renewable projects.
Develop country- and project-specific revenue forecasts for standalone BESS and co-located PV+BESS projects, using historical market data, forward-looking assumptions, market trends and expected competition.
Analyze and quantify BESS revenue stacks, including energy arbitrage, Intraday, balancing, ancillary services, capacity mechanisms and other flexibility revenues, while considering interactions and opportunity costs between different markets.
· Determine the optimal technical and commercial configuration of BESS and hybrid projects based on market conditions and expected revenues, including battery power and energy capacity, duration, PV/BESS ratio, cycling strategy and other relevant parameters.
· Evaluate the impact of grid connection conditions and operational constraints on project configuration and revenues, including export limitations, ramp restrictions, availability requirements and other country-specific grid requirements.
· Build, maintain and continuously improve internal revenue models and analytical tools to assess project revenues, sensitivities, market risks and commercial viability.
· Benchmark and critically assess external market and revenue forecasts, developing an independent internal view of realistic and bankable revenue assumptions for investment and project valuation purposes.
· Evaluate and compare route-to-market strategies for BESS and hybrid renewable projects, including merchant, tolling, PPA, floor and hybrid structures, with the objective of maximising project value while appropriately managing commercial risk.
· Support the commercialization of projects by contributing market analysis, pricing assumptions and commercial recommendations to PPA, Tolling Agreement and other offtake negotiations.
· Support business cases, investment decisions and project valuations by translating market and technical assumptions into clear commercial recommendations, including scenario and sensitivity analyses.
· Collaborate closely with Development, Engineering and Finance to ensure that project design, grid connection strategy, revenue assumptions and commercialization approach are aligned and optimized throughout the project lifecycle.
· Build and maintain relationships with relevant market participants, including utilities, traders, optimizers, aggregators, TSOs/DSOs, regulators and other industry stakeholders, to strengthen market intelligence and identify commercial opportunities.
Selection Criteria
Technical Qualifications
· Good understanding of electricity markets in at least one European target market.
· Familiarity with Day-Ahead, Intraday, Balancing, Ancillary Services, Capacity Markets, and other flexibility markets.
· Understanding of current revenue optimization and commercialization models for standalone BESS and co-located renewable energy projects.
· Ability to interpret and use market models, revenue forecasts, and financial models.
· Strong Excel skills and financial modeling capabilities
· Familiarity with Python, Power BI, or similar tools is a plus.
· Exposure to commercial negotiations, tolling agreements, PPAs, or energy trading is beneficial but not mandatory.
Analytical Capabilities
The successful candidate should be able to quantitatively assess how different technical configurations impact project economics. Typical analyses include:
· Optimizing battery storage systems capacity with 2-hour and 4-hour battery storage systems with respect to CAPEX, OPEX, revenue potential, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
· Determining the ideal battery size for co-located solar PV projects.
· Evaluating revenue allocation across energy arbitrage, balancing services, ancillary services, and other flexibility products.
· Performing scenario and sensitivity analyses covering electricity price forecasts, technology cost reductions, grid connection costs, financing assumptions, and regulatory changes.
Personal Competencies
· Strong commercial and negotiation skills; proven ability to lead and close deals
· Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
· Self-driven, proactive, and entrepreneurial mindset.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
· Fluent English (written and spoken); additional European languages are considered an advantage.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Energy Economics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Finance, or related discipline.
· 3-5 years of experience in commercial or offtake origination, PPA/tolling negotiation, route-to-market, or energy trading, combined with a solid understanding of electricity markets and BESS & all renewable assets. A demonstrable deal track record is highly desirable
