Lumiphase is a deep-tech startup based in Stäfa, Switzerland, developing innovative silicon photonics technology.

Interested in gaining hands-on experience and contributing to our R&D activities? Join our student talent pool to be considered for future internships, working student roles, and MSc thesis projects.

We typically offer six-month internships starting in February/March or September/October. Working student roles and MSc thesis projects may have different schedules and durations, depending on team needs and university requirements.

Tasks

You will work closely with one or more Lumiphase R&D teams. Depending on the project, your activities may include:

  • Photonics Testing: Performing optical and electrical measurements, developing test setups, and validating test methods.
  • Data Engineering & Analysis: Developing Python-based analysis tools, assessing measurement uncertainty and data quality, and supporting data workflows.
  • Industrial Automation: Programming hardware control, integrating equipment, and automating laboratory workflows.
  • Materials: Characterising materials, investigating their properties, and analysing experimental results.
  • Documenting your work and presenting results to the team.

This talent pool covers potential future opportunities. Specific projects depend on team needs and supervision availability.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Photonics, Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • An interest in silicon photonics, technology development, and practical problem-solving.
  • A willingness to learn and collaborate with engineers and researchers.
  • A careful and structured approach to your work.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Availability to work on site in Stäfa.

Depending on the project, experience with Python, electronics, laboratory equipment, simulation, data analysis, or cleanroom processes may be useful. Previous industry experience is not required.
