At Lexxion we are proud to serve as a specialist publisher for all stakeholders within the European Union. Based in Berlin, we offer legal journals, books, conferences and professional training in areas such as European data protection law, State aid and Artificial Intelligence law.

We are looking for an Executive Editor (m/f/d) to join our editorial team, preferably from 1 November 2024. The Editor will be in charge of Lexxion’s portfolio of publications in the field of European competition law, State aid and public procurement law.

Tasks

  • Management of legal journals: desk reviews, editing, formatting and typesetting of manuscripts; liaising with authors, reviewers and editorial team; planning content, setting and adhering to production deadlines.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in relevant legal and policy areas; pro-actively curating the journals to reflect interesting developments in the focus areas.
  • Creating and implementing outreach and business development initiatives to increase the visibility of the journals (in conjunction with Lexxion's marketing team).
  • Developing ideas for and planning seminars and conferences with our conference managers.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in European law and policy.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in EU law/affairs, international economic law/affairs or related fields.
  • 1+ years of prior professional experience.
  • Excellent planning, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with high-level professionals and experts.
  • Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail coupled with strategic, big-picture thinking.
  • A background in the specific journal topics is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Previous experience in the publishing sector will be highly valued.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (native speaker or equivalent). Some German language skills would be helpful for everyday exchange with colleagues, but are not a must.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  1. Introduction Chat (30 min; via telephone or MS Teams)
    - Participants: Nelly Stratieva (Head of Editorial and future manager).
    - Objective: Introduce Lexxion, discuss the position and team; share your experience, interest in and qualification for the position; share your preferred start date; address questions about the role and the company.
  2. Test Assignment (1 hour; remote; unpaid)
    - Objective: Demonstrate your ability to do a task which will be part of your work as Executive Editor.
  3. Test Assignment Q&A, Line Manager and CEO Interview (1.5 hours; in person at Lexxion’s office in Berlin-Wilmersdorf)
    - Participants: Nelly Stratieva and August Andreae (Managing Director)
    - Objective: Give and receive feedback on your test assignment ; discuss your qualifications, motivation, professional goals and fit with the company culture; talk in more depth about the position, the immediate and extended team you will be collaborating with; explore your management and interpersonal skills; discuss your preferred start date and salary; possibly meet some of the team members in the Editorial Department.
  4. Offer Talk
    - Participants: August Andreae
    - Objective: Present our offer; agree on start date; discuss the onboarding process.
