The Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE) is a non-profit research institute focused on developing translational solutions for the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of diseases relevant to global child and adolescent health. The BIIE is currently located at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich in Basel, Switzerland, using its core scientific facilities such as the Single Cell Facility (SCF) for flow cytometry services. The flow cytometry instrument portfolio of the SCF currently consists of 7 sorters and 7 analyzers offering a wide range of high-end features such as spectral and image analysis-based sorting.
The BIIE is looking for an experienced flow cytometry expert to be embedded in the SCF flow cytometry team. We are looking for an individual with a proven track record in the use and maintenance of flow cytometry instrumentation who is interested in working in a diverse, international and innovative environment. The position is limited to 2 years with possible extension. Depending on the candidate's qualifications and performance, this position may evolve into the Head of Flow Cytometry at the new BIIE site in Basel within three years.
Responsibilities include all aspects of flow cytometry sorter and analyzer operation, including quality control and maintenance. Training, user support and expert advice on experimental design, data analysis and interpretation of results are an essential part of this profile, as is the organization of logistical aspects of the service schedule.
Your profile: Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art flow cytometry equipment, knowledge of quantitative cell analysis and high-speed cell sorting. You should have a good knowledge of optical principles and practical skills in hardware maintenance and tuning. Previous experience of spectral analysis is essential. We will consider all technical and academic degrees, depending on the candidate's experience and skills in the field of flow cytometry.
This position requires very good communication skills in English to interact with researchers, and a commitment to adapt to the service-oriented nature of the facility to successfully support scientific research and operations at the D-BSSE and BIIE. In addition to excellent technical skills in the field of flow cytometry, you must be an excellent team player and able to adapt to a diverse working environment.
