First Momentum Ventures

1-10

First Momentum Ventures is hiring for a pre-seed Deep Tech startup industrialising fusion and turning Sci-Fi machines into manufacturable, repeatable products.
At the centre of this strategy is the industrialisation of high-field superconducting magnet systems, to unlock compact fusion and near-term commercial applications in medical imaging and industrial inspection.
Backed by First Momentum, Europe’s leading early-stage deep tech investor, the founding team is now hiring its first technical engineer as it moves from research concept to prototype hardware.

Tasks

System-level architecture of the HTS magnet platform

Design, development, and validation of HTS coils for fusion and MRI-class applications

Demountable superconducting joint development

Quench detection, protection, and instrumentation

Prototype campaigns from bench experiments to sub-scale hardware

Defining the path from early prototypes toward repeatable, industrialised production

Requirements

Must-haves:

Deep experience with superconducting magnet systems (HTS preferred; strong LTS fundamentals acceptable)

Demonstrated ownership of real hardware: built, tested, debugged, iterated

Familiarity with REBCO/HTS materials, coil winding, quench protection, and superconducting instrumentation

Comfortable with high autonomy and low structure at an early-stage company

Nice-to-haves:

Experience bridging research and product development

Interest in design-to-manufacture and industrialisation of advanced systems

Typical backgrounds: magnet design engineers, applied superconductivity researchers, HTS system developers, or research engineers ready to build products instead of papers.

Benefits

Huge opportunity as employee #1
This is a full-ownership, hands-on role for an engineer who wants to define a magnet program from scratch. You will work directly with the CEO and COO, set the technical direction, and build the team around you as the company grows.
Why This Is Rare
Most magnet roles sit inside large programs with narrow work packages. This is the opposite: we offer full technical ownership of a magnet system that will define the architecture of a next-generation fusion device, with direct input into how industrialised superconductivity gets built in practice. Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and a founding team role with real compounding impact.

Please note: due to anticipated application volume, we may only be able to respond to candidates selected for further consideration.
