Tax Manager (m/f/d) EMEA with focus on VAT

Are you a seasoned VAT expert looking to make a real impact in a dynamic, international environment? We are looking for a VAT Manager to join our team and oversee VAT compliance and strategy across the EMEA region. In this role, you will act as a key advisor to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with VAT regulations and contributing to strategic business decisions.

Tasks

  • Prepare and review domestic and international VAT returns in collaboration with local tax advisors; support Intrastat reporting.
  • Track changes in VAT legislation across Germany and other EMEA countries and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for business units, corporate functions, suppliers, customers, tax authorities, and auditors on VAT matters.
  • Participate in cross-functional and cross-regional projects, including business restructurings, supply chain changes, and e-invoicing initiatives.
  • Evaluate VAT implications in contracts and provide risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to VAT in Germany and abroad.
  • Conduct VAT training sessions for internal departments.
  • Tax Compliance Management: Develop and enhance the VAT compliance framework, including drafting and updating guidelines, performing internal controls, and optimizing processes.

Requirements

  • University degree in Economics or Law with strong academic performance; German tax advisor certification required.
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in a consulting firm or multinational corporation.
  • In-depth knowledge of German and EU VAT law; understanding of value chains and business models.
  • Strong grasp of tax and accounting processes; proficient in MS Office and SAP; IT-savvy.
  • Knowledge of corporate tax accounting is a plus.
  • Fluent in German and English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Analytical and solution-oriented mindset, hands-on approach, self-driven, confident communicator, team player, resilient, and adaptable to change.
