Everest Carbon is a fast-growing climate technology startup specializing in innovative sensor technology for the commercialization of negative emissions. Our mission is to enable 1 billion tons of CO2 removed per year by 2035 through our products and services.
We are looking for a Senior Hydrus3D Modeling Expert to support the simulation and validation of subsurface hydrological processes related to our alkalinity sensing technology. This is an individual contributor role offering high autonomy and technical ownership of the Hydrus3D modeling pipeline.
Your work will directly support R&D efforts aimed at advancing real-time alkalinity measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) for Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) based carbon removals.
You will collaborate closely with and report directly to the Head of R&D.
Tasks
- Set up and run Hydrus3D simulations that model unsaturated and saturated water flow and solute transport in field-relevant soil systems.
- Collaborate with our internal science and sensor teams to translate field and lab conditions into simulation parameters.
- Calibrate models based on known soil, moisture, and solute properties and align simulations with experimental data.
- Help validate and interpret sensor outputs using model results as a comparative benchmark.
- Document modeling assumptions, configuration, and results for internal use and potential publication.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in soil science, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Deep hands-on experience with Hydrus3D (or a strong background in Hydrus-2D with the ability to quickly ramp up to 3D simulations).
- Solid understanding of unsaturated zone hydrology, solute transport processes, and soil physical properties.
- Proven ability to set up, calibrate, and validate hydrological models under real-world or controlled experimental conditions.
- Strong skills in interdisciplinary collaboration and effective documentation of technical methods and results.
- Bonus: Experience in alkalinity, carbonate chemistry, or biogeochemical cycling in soils is highly desirable.
Benefits
- Competitive pay and stock options package
- Meaningful work at the forefront of carbon removal and climate tech
- Close collaboration with a multi-disciplinary, international team
- Flexible working hours and location (remote, CET +-4h)
