Research Engineer & Project Manager in Robotics - ETH Zürich

The Industrial Robotics Group, co-hosted by ETH Zürich and inspire AG, is a rapidly growing applied research group that focuses on robotics challenges in the industry. Utilizing advanced computational methods, machine learning, modeling, and custom hardware, we address the industry's pressing issues and test solutions in real-world projects.

We foster a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and no BS, where facts, learnings, and results are of utmost importance. We maintain our own state-of-the-art laboratory and are generally well-funded. Our goal is to develop the essential technologies and methodologies needed to create fully integrated, autonomous, and highly reliable systems for manufacturing.

We seek a dynamic and versatile Research Engineer with a robotics background and a hands-on attitude. The ideal candidate is keen to deepen the intricacies of computational industrial robotics in a fast paced research environment. The ideal candidate is also keen to learn the intricacies of managing complex projects.

• Lead and conduct an applied research project with one of our industry partners.
• Engage in weekly one on one mentorship sessions on technical project management including system design with the group leader.
• Design, perform and analyze experiments.
• Implement research findings and collaborate with our researchers.
• Supervise multiple smaller projects and initiatives concurrently.
• Support the initiation of new projects and foster collaborations with industry and research partners.

• A Master’s degree in a relevant field from a renowned university.
• Engineering experience, demonstrated by a proven track record of building complex electro-mechanical systems, inclusive of software, algorithms, and perception.
• Demonstrable organizational skills and the ability to make decisions independently.
• Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C++.
• Previous involvement in a “Focus project” at ETHZ MAVT is a significant advantage (please highlight this in your CV).
