Custom Surgical is a fast-growing AI-powered medical technology startup transforming the future of eye care through advanced 3D visualization and intelligent Computer Aided Diagnosis systems. We work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, hardware, software, and clinical innovation, building products that enhance diagnose precision and improve patient outcomes.

We are an ambitious, international team, moving fast, learning constantly, and developing AI-driven technologies that support surgeons in some of the most demanding clinical environments.

Tasks

As a Working Student in Product Management, you will work directly with the Head of Product and contribute to the full lifecycle of MicroREC, our ecosystem of hardware, software, and AI products for ophthalmology.

This role is ideal for students who want to understand how products are built end-to-end in a real medtech startup: from understanding user needs and defining requirements, to shipping features and tracking their impact.

What you'll do

  • Support the Head of Product in managing the product roadmap and sprint planning
  • Help define and document product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Conduct user and market research to inform product decisions
  • Test new features and releases across our platforms (Android, Windows, web) before they go live
  • Write and maintain structured test cases and bug reports
  • Reproduce and document issues with clear steps, helping the engineering team prioritize and resolve them
  • Assist in preparing product presentations, feature specs, and decision-support materials
  • Track feature releases and gather feedback from customers and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, hardware, and sales teams
  • Take ownership of focused product initiatives and drive them independently

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled as a Bachelor's or Master's student (e.g. in engineering, business, design, or a related field)
  • Genuine interest in product management, digital health, or medtech
  • Structured thinker with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and thorough — you notice what others miss
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and iterating quickly
  • Able to work independently and follow through on commitments
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Available to commit 20 hours per week for at least 6 months

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, Figma, Notion, or similar
  • Experience with manual testing, QA processes, or bug tracking tools
  • Background or interest in healthcare, medical devices, or clinical workflows
  • Experience in UX research, data analysis, or software development

Benefits

What we offer

  • Direct mentorship from the Head of Product across strategy, design, and execution
  • Hands-on exposure to a real product portfolio (mobile, desktop, cloud, AI, hardware)
  • A front-row seat to how product decisions are made in a fast-moving medtech startup
  • Flexible hours compatible with your university schedule
  • Strong professional reference and genuine long-term career value
  • The chance to contribute to products that directly impact patient care

If you're curious about how great products are built, excited about the intersection of technology and healthcare, and motivated to take real ownership from day one, we'd love to hear from you.
