We are expanding our Finance Team with an ambitious, business minded and motivated Team Lead (GL Accounting) based in our finance center of excellence in Lisbon.
Tasks
The Team Lead for the GL Accountants oversees the accurate management of general ledger accounting, tax compliance, and expense management for multiple companies across several countries. The Team Lead is responsible for supervising financial closings, reconciliations, statutory reporting, tax filings, and audits, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations by working closely with local country teams and auditors.
In addition to core supervisory responsibilities, the Team Lead plays a crucial role in leading and mentoring the team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving process enhancements within the department. This position requires and detail-oriented finance leader with extensive experience in GL processes, financial reporting, and tax compliance within an international or shared service environment.
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the review of bookings for local general ledger accounts and OPEX-related invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Supervising the execution, oversight, and improvement of internal (non-client-related) expense management processes, ensuring compliance with company policies and internal controls.
- Managing period-end close activities, including supervising the preparation or verification of accruals adjustments, and to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Overseeing the review and preparation of local financial statements and tax filings, ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely VAT reporting and other relevant tax obligations, reviewing submissions for accuracy.
- Validate and oversee the submission of required financial data to national authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with audit teams, providing necessary documentation and explanations to facilitate the audit process.
- Leading the mentoring and guidance of senior accountants, ensuring they receive training, technical support, and performance feedback.
- Act as a key point of contact for senior team members and assisting in resolving complex accounting issues.
- Drive process improvements in GL accounting, identifying inefficiencies, recommending solutions, and supporting improvement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to accounting best practices and internal policies across all financial operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor
- Min. 5 years’ experience with focus on accounting and tax from global organization.
- Exhibit exceptional discipline and structure when overseeing financial data management, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all accounting processes across the team.
- Possess a keen attention to detail while maintaining a strategic overview of financial transactions, reporting requirements, and team performance.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and adaptability, fostering a growth mindset within the team, and quickly learning and implementing new processes, systems, and regulatory requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Strong ERP (Business Central) and Excel skills.
- Experience working with companies outside Portugal (e.g., collaborating with international entities within a group structure) is considered an advantage.
- Have professional communication skills in Portuguese and English.
