About Ambio

Ambio is an AI-driven physical commodity trader on a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable materials. This mission is progressing fast in our primary domain – recycled plastics.

We work closely with global brands and industrial manufacturers through the full procurement cycle, making sustainable materials an easy choice. The main product we’re building is Ambio Platform – a tool that our team of traders uses daily to run the full sales process and all the operations related to it.

We’re a Helsinki-based startup with 15 employees with offices in Helsinki, Berlin, and Stockholm, and funding from e.g. Lifeline Ventures and Speedinvest.

Role

We're looking for a full stack software engineer (web) to join our product team and build the digital infrastructure that powers real-world trading and logistics. This role is a great fit for someone who is excited about startups and building with AI in the center. This is an on-site position in our Helsinki office.

Tasks

What you'll do:

  • Build and maintain full stack features across our React frontend and Node.js backend
  • Work with our PostgreSQL database, including schema design, query optimization, and migrations
  • Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using Terraform
  • Design and implement AI agents and AI workflows that solve real user problems
  • Help shape engineering standards as we grow
  • Work closely with our commercial team to define and refine our feature set

Requirements

Signs you would be a great fit for this role:

  • Genuine interest to work at a fast growing startup with a high ambition level and to take real ownership in developing the product
  • Ability to work across our full stack: Node.js, Typescript, React, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, Github Actions – we don’t expect you to be an expert in everything but the nature of the work is more backend-leaning than frontend and we particularly appreciate expertise with Typescript
  • Your ideal work day involves more than picking up tickets from a backlog and building them independently – you enjoy collaborating both with other developers and end users
  • You are interested to work in a flexible, but mostly on-site team (office based in central Helsinki)
  • Interest in AI-native development: LLM APIs, tool use, retrieval, agent architectures
  • You care about code quality and moving fast and can find the right balance between the two

How we work:

  • Every technical decision traces back to a real user problem and we hold ourselves to a high bar in every delivery that touches the customer
  • We ship simple, learn fast, and improve continuously – getting to value quickly matters more than perfecting something in a vacuum
  • You own your work end-to-end, from the first commit to the outcome it produces. We communicate proactively, step up across role boundaries when needed, and take responsibility for shared results, not just individual tasks
  • We take the mission seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We hire for work ethic, curiosity, and attitude, not credentials
  • No title or role is more important than the work itself. We approach each other and our craft with humility, empathy, and a constant drive to raise the bar and improve each day

Typical recruitment process:

  1. Intro: get to know each other
  2. Technical interview: practical interview through examples from real work
  3. Culture interview: with the founders
  4. Reference checks from your previous jobs
  5. Closing: with your future team lead and/or one of the founders
