It’s exactly for this reason that adjoe’s Programmatic team has built its own mediation platform WAVE. It’s not only driven by a backend application that decides which ad to show but also by our Android and iOS SDKs. These render the ads for the user and provide useful tracking events to the backend.

For every single of the millions of ads that our users see each day, our backend requests bids from dozens of ad networks that compete for the impression in real-time. We also provide one of the ad networks through a bidding algorithm that consists of a robust and high-performance Go application as well as a data streaming system which uses modern technologies like Kafka, Flink or ScyllaDB. All of those parts together generate billions of events every day that our backend has to handle.

What You Will Do

• Develop our backend written in Go and maintain our microservice architecture, running on Kubernetes.
• Work in a community of developers with whom you’ll share knowledge and contribute to peer code reviews.
• Work with modern technologies such as Kafka, ScyllaDB and gRPC as well as battle-proven tools like MySQL, Redis and AWS SQS to ensure high availability and millisecond latency for our users and partners.
• Collaborate with our Data Science team to solve complex math problems used to optimize our ML algorithms for matching ads and users and integrate their solutions into adjoe’s application.
• Design our backend system, considering all parts from the communication with our mobile SDKs over internal services to external APIs and dashboards.
• Choose the right tools for the job, set them up in our Kubernetes cluster using Terraform and monitor them with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Grafana, and Kibana.
• Be part of an international English-speaking team dedicated to scaling our adtech platform beyond our hundreds of millions of monthly active users.

Who You Are

• You have gained 4+ years of experience working in software development with a focus on backend.
• You are a technology nerd and can get involved in new, complex topics quickly.
• You have already built backend applications in Go.
• “This pod has two deployments” sounds strange to you and you can explain why.
• You have a good understanding of real-time streaming technologies like Kafka and you have worked with relational as well as NoSQL databases.
• You know how to deploy a Helm chart with Terraform.
• Plus: you like working with numbers, you can easily find patterns in large amounts of data and when you hear “machine learning” the first thing that comes to your mind is not “ChatGPT”.
• You are open to relocating to Hamburg, Germany.
