Wunder Mobility

Senior Software Engineer - Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Employee
Engineering

Wunder Mobility builds the software that powers shared mobility worldwide. Our platform runs 20M+ successful trips yearly and processing 50M+ daily API calls in Europe, the US, and Asia. Operators like Forest (London), Green Mobility (Copenhagen), and Emmy (Berlin, Hamburg, Munich) rely on us every day to move cities forward.

We've raised more than €100M, navigated restructuring, and are now profitable, focused, and scaling. Today, we're investing in analytics and AI with clear monetization goals.

We're building the AI and agentic layer of our platform. This layer will power two things: agents that automate fleet operations, customer support and marketing, and conversational analytics that let operators ask questions and get answers from their data. Both share the same foundation. This is your chance to build that foundation and the first use cases on top of it.

Note: this role is based in our office in Hamburg. You need to have valid authorization to work in Germany.

Tasks

As Senior Software Engineer - Artificial Intelligence, you will build the foundation for AI and agentic workflows at Wunder. Your work has three phases:

  1. Build the foundation. Create a service layer that connects to data sources (like ThoughtSpot Spotter), writes API queries, and provides a unified interface for both agentic workflows and conversational analytics.
  2. Build the first use cases. Use this foundation to deliver working products. For example: agents that identify vehicles with problems and put them into a service state, agents that create tasks for the operations team, agents that detect rental issues and proactively reach out to customers, and a conversational analytics interface that lets operators query their data in natural language.
  3. Enable other teams. Make it easy for other engineering teams at Wunder to build their own use cases on top of your foundation. This means clean APIs, good documentation, and a design that others can extend.

What this looks like day to day:

  • Design and build the agentic layer: the infrastructure that allows agents to reason, use tools, and execute multi-step tasks in our platform.
  • Integrate LLM APIs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) into backend services, using patterns like function calling, tool use, and agent orchestration.
  • Connect to external data sources via MCP and APIs so that both agents and conversational analytics can access the data they need.
  • Ship to production. Everything you build needs to work reliably at scale. We run a live platform with millions of rentals.
  • Work closely with our Product Manager Data & AI and data analyst to make sure what you build solves real operator problems.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers (Java Spring Boot) and frontend developers (React/React Native) to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Set up monitoring and safety practices to make sure autonomous agent actions are predictable, safe, and aligned with what users expect.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience. You are a strong engineer first. On top of that, you have hands-on experience with LLMs and a real interest in the space.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs and agentic architectures. You have integrated LLMs into real applications, not just experimented with them. You understand patterns like function calling, tool use, and multi-step agent workflows.
  • Experience shipping AI features into production SaaS environments. You have taken AI work from idea to production, not just built demos.
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS) and the ability to make good trade-offs between cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Platform thinking. You don't just build features. You think about how to build systems that other teams can use and extend.
  • Product mindset. You care about solving real problems for real users, not just making the technology work.
  • Clear communication. You can explain technical decisions to product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineers. You work well in small, focused teams.

Benefits

What You’ll Get

  • Direct impact: Your features will be in the hands of operators powering millions of trips.
  • Applied AI work: Focus on turning research into usable, revenue-generating features.
  • Collaborative setup: Work with a dedicated PM and data analyst, not in isolation in one team.
  • Hybrid model: 3 days in our Hamburg office, 2 days remote.
  • 25-day paid & unlimited unpaid vacation: Take the time to rest and recharge!
  • 30-day workation: Work from anywhere in the world once a year.
  • Future growth: Opportunity to shape Wunder’s AI engineering standards and mentor future hires.
