Backend Software Engineer

The Role

We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer (Java mainly) with hands-on AWS experience to join us. Whether you bring a few years of experience or are a seasoned engineer, what matters is that you write clean, well-tested Java code, understand distributed systems, and are comfortable owning services in production. You'll design, build, and operate backend services end to end - from architecture discussions to deployment and monitoring.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Java running on AWS.
• Build and optimize data processing and reporting pipelines handling large datasets.
• Work with AWS services such as S3, Athena, Lambda, SQS, Redshift, and RDS to build scalable, cost-efficient solutions.
• Own your services in production: monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and incident response.
• Collaborate with product and other engineering teams across the tribe to deliver features that matter to merchants.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and the continuous improvement of our engineering practices.

What you bring to the table

• Solid professional experience in Java backend development (Spring, Quarkus or similar frameworks).
• Hands-on experience building and running workloads on AWS.
• Good understanding of relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL experience is a plus).
• Experience with distributed systems, message queues, or batch/stream data processing.
• A pragmatic approach: you value maintainability, testing, and shipping working software.
• You possess a fluent command of the English language.
• A university degree in Computer Science or a closely associated discipline is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS analytics services (Athena, Glue, ETL).
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Background in payments, fintech, or other high-volume transactional domains.
