We are Una, a mission-driven company tackling the ever-increasing burden of metabolic disease.
We combine the latest medical research, data science, biosensor technology, and human-centered design to enable sustainable behaviour change and improve health outcomes.
We have created the first medical-grade digital therapy that sustainably solves metabolic dysfunction.
We are backed by leading investors such as Atlantic Food Labs, PeakBridge, Plug and Play, and DART Labs, and angels such as the founders of mySugr/9amHealth and Ada Health.
Now is the perfect moment to join us: we’ve launched our fully reimbursed solution for millions of people with type 2 diabetes in Germany, and we’re scaling rapidly. Next, we’re expanding beyond our DiGA offering: building new product experiences for patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders, while integrating AI to improve patient and doctor experience and raise the quality of care.
We’re looking for a Product Design Lead to design the next generation of digital metabolic care — turning complex medical, behavioural, regulatory, and AI-driven challenges into simple, trustworthy, high-impact product experiences.
This is a role for someone who thrives in ambiguity. You will not only polish existing flows; you will help us discover and shape new product bets from first principles. You’ll work closely with our CEO, Head of Product, engineering, data science, clinical, regulatory, and care teams to move from unclear problem spaces to testable hypotheses, prototypes, user evidence, and buildable product decisions.
We care deeply about craft, but we are a startup: progress, ownership, and learning speed matter. The right person knows when to go deep, when to ship a pragmatic V1, and how to help a cross-functional team make clear decisions quickly.
Tasks
What you’ll do
- Own end-to-end product design from ambiguous problem discovery through user research, hypotheses, prototyping, UI design, handover, QA, and iteration.
- Lead discovery for new strategic product bets, especially beyond the current DiGA offering — including patient, healthcare professional, and multi-stakeholder workflows.
- Translate ambiguity into structure: define the problem, identify assumptions, frame testable hypotheses, propose lean discovery plans, and create clear decision points for the team.
- Run focused user discovery with patients, healthcare professionals, internal experts, and other stakeholders (mostly in German at the moment) — turning insights into sharp product direction rather than broad research outputs.
- Create simple, high-quality UX concepts and user journeys that make complex clinical, behavioural, data, AI, and regulatory constraints understandable and usable.
- Design polished, buildable UI — including high-fidelity screens, interaction details, states, edge cases, and annotated specs that engineering can confidently implement.
- Build and maintain a pragmatic design system that improves speed and consistency without becoming process-heavy or slowing down delivery.
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, data science, clinical, regulatory, and care teams to bring ideas to life through experiments, prototypes, MVPs, and iterative refinement.
- Move fast without losing quality: make trade-offs explicit, reuse existing patterns where sensible, and avoid over-perfecting work before we have evidence.
- Leverage AI thoughtfully in the product experience, exploring new interaction patterns while designing for trust, safety, transparency, and clinical relevance.
- Raise the design bar at Una by bringing strong design judgement, clear communication, structured critique, and a culture of user-centered decision making.
Requirements
What you bring
- 5+ years of hands-on product design experience, ideally in a fast-moving startup, scaleup, or similarly ambiguous environment.
- A strong portfolio showing end-to-end ownership: from unclear problem space to discovery, hypotheses, prototypes, polished UI, and shipped product.
- Strong UX, UI, and product thinking — you can simplify complex workflows, create buildable designs, and make clear trade-offs.
- Proven ability to lead strategic discovery for new product bets: asking the right questions, testing assumptions quickly, and turning insights into product direction.
- A bias for speed, ownership, and learning — you know when to go deep, when to ship a pragmatic V1, and how to keep a team moving.
- Excellent collaboration with product, engineering, data science, clinical, regulatory, and care teams — especially when the path is not yet clear.
- Professional-level German and English — written and spoken — including the ability to conduct research and review nuanced user-facing copy in German.
- Experience with design systems and the craft to produce high-quality, consistent, buildable interfaces.
- Curiosity for AI-powered product experiences and how to design them responsibly, safely, and simply.
Bonus:
- Experience operating in (German) healthcare
Research shows that there is a Confidence Gap between different groups (e.g., gender, age, ethnicity) leading some to apply when they meet 60% of the criteria, and others only when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We'd love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.
