Sunflower Labs is an internationally operating company providing a fully autonomous, AI-powered drone security system built to protect commercial, industrial, and residential properties. Security that flies ahead of every threat.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing, building and testing hardware. You will help develop our next-generation drone and base station and improve existing products.
Working with our engineering and production teams, you will contribute to defined mechanical development tasks, from CAD and drawings through prototyping and testing. You will help turn ideas into practical hardware and take on individual development topics as you become familiar with our products.
Tasks
- Design and revise mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, and prepare technical drawings and bills of materials.
- Build, assemble and test prototypes, using measurements and test results to improve your designs.
- Design jigs and fixtures to support prototyping, assembly and testing.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and assembly principles, incorporating feedback from the team, suppliers and production to improve fit, assembly and serviceability.
- Work across engineering disciplines to integrate components, resolve mechanical issues and document designs, tests and assembly procedures.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field, respectively equivalent practical experience.
- Practical experience designing, building and testing mechanical components or assemblies, gained through employment, internships, university projects or personal projects.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, with a solid understanding of technical drawings, tolerances, materials and design for manufacturing and assembly.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, mechanical assembly and testing, and the ability to turn findings into reliable, manufacturable designs.
- Good written and spoken English and a collaborative working style, sound engineering judgement, with an interest in sharing knowledge and developing your expertise.
- A creative, practical approach to solving problems, exploring new ideas and refining them through testing and feedback.
Nice to have :
- Experience with drones, robotics, RC aircraft or other electromechanical systems.
- Exposure to design for CNC machining, injection moulding, sheet metal or vacuum casting.
- Experience with thermal management, particularly thermal simulation and validation through physical measurements and testing.
- Experience with structural analysis or FEA.
- Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) or SolidWorks PDM.
Benefits
- Flexibility to work from home when tasks allow, without fixed weekly work-from-home days.
- Comprehensive training on products and production procedures.
- Hands-on experience with advanced drone and robotics technology.
- On-site parking, occasional team lunches, and team events.
We are looking forward to receiving your CV and a short description or portfolio of your relevant projects. We would particularly like to see something you designed, built or tested, along with a brief explanation of your own contribution.
