About PIDSO
For over 15 years, PIDSO has been developing high-performance communication solutions “Made in Austria” – built for environments where failure is not an option.
Our antenna and RF systems enable reliable data transmission and signal processing in mission-critical applications across aerospace, defense, motorsport, automotive, and Industry 4.0.
We combine research, development, manufacturing, and testing under one roof. Fast, focused, and with uncompromising attention to detail.
Tasks
The Mission
We are looking for a hands-on embedded systems architect to shape reusable software platforms across our products. Our systems combine ARM processors, real-time software, FPGA logic, signal processing, and hardware developed in-house.
You should have first-hand experience taking embedded systems from prototype to released product and seen how architecture and security decisions affect integration, production, field operation, and maintenance.
Our embedded products currently use AMD/Xilinx SoCs. Experience with this ecosystem is useful but not required; architecture judgment and comparable embedded experience matter more than familiarity with one toolchain.
You will work with embedded, FPGA/DSP, hardware, Quality, Production, Operations, project managers, and external specialists. You will take on more of the embedded-platform architecture as you become familiar with our products and organization.
Why this role matters
You will have real technical ownership and influence how we structure, secure, release, and maintain embedded software. The decisions you make and the software you build will affect both current products and future ones.
The work brings together embedded software, FPGA/DSP, electronics, RF, electromagnetics, and antenna engineering in smart-antenna, radar, and communications systems. You will collaborate directly with specialists from each field.
What you will do
- Own platform decisions covering startup, watchdogs, diagnostics, configuration, update, rollback, recovery, and lifecycle behavior.
- Translate product and stakeholder needs into clear, verifiable system and platform requirements. Resolve gaps and conflicting constraints with the responsible teams, and maintain traceability to architecture decisions and verification.
- Define and negotiate clear, testable interfaces between software, hardware, programmable logic, operating systems, and connected tools. Make ownership, versioning, compatibility, and failure behavior explicit.
- Evaluate processors, SoCs, operating systems, toolchains, and shared components against product and lifecycle constraints.
- Stay hands-on through implementation, prototyping, debugging, automated tests, and review of critical code.
- Apply security engineering to trust boundaries, secure boot and updates, recovery, device identity, provisioning, and key-lifecycle constraints.
- Back architecture decisions with working software, tests, and concise decision records. Support practical improvements to reviews, builds, releases, and configuration management.
- Lead design reviews and help engineers take ownership of platform components.
- Agree and maintain interface control documents (ICDs) and acceptance criteria across teams. Improve how technical work is handed from R&D to Production and Operations, including input from quality management, suppliers, and project partners.
Requirements
What you bring
- At least seven years of professional embedded-software development, including technical ownership of a platform, product architecture, or critical subsystem through implementation, release, and maintenance.
- Hands-on ownership of a security- or lifecycle-critical embedded capability used in a real product, such as secure boot, authenticated updates, rollback and recovery, provisioning, or device identity.
- Strong C and/or C++ experience with ARM SoCs, microcontrollers, bare-metal software, an RTOS, embedded Linux, or a comparable low-level environment.
- Examples of architecture decisions you drove, including trade-offs, validation, and lessons from failures.
- Practical experience in requirements engineering, including writing and reviewing verifiable requirements and linking them to design and verification.
- Experience defining hardware/software contracts and reasoning about concurrency, timing, failure handling, compatibility, and observability.
- Experience improving development practices across design, implementation, review, testing, release, and maintenance.
- Ability to make sound decisions with incomplete information and resolve technical disagreements across teams.
- Active and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools, with careful validation of results and appropriate handling of confidential or security-sensitive information.
Helpful experience
- Jama Connect or comparable requirements-management tools
- AMD/Xilinx tools and SoC security mechanisms
- FPGA/CPU integration using AXI, DMA, shared memory, and interrupts
- FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS, PikeOS, Zephyr, QNX, Yocto, or comparable platforms
- HSM-backed signing, PKI integration, secure manufacturing, device identity, or provisioning
- CRA-related engineering, IEC 62443, DO-178C, ISO 26262, EN 50128, an EN 9100 quality system, or a comparable regulated context
- reproducible builds, HIL, fault injection, SBOMs, or vulnerability response
Benefits
Why join PIDSO?
At PIDSO, software doesn’t just support the business – it helps build, test, and deliver high-end antenna and radar technology.
You’ll work close to the hardware, the engineers, and the products: from RF measurement systems and automated test environments to engineering tools used every day in R&D and Production.
What you can expect:
- Engineering with real-world impact – your software directly supports the development and quality of our antenna, radar, and communication systems.
- Ownership that matters – from understanding the problem to architecture, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Close to the technology – work alongside specialists in RF, DSP, embedded software, hardware, Production, and Quality.
- Complex challenges instead of generic software projects – measurement systems, connected hardware, automation, simulation, and engineering workflows.
- Room to shape things – PIDSO is growing, and so are our software landscape, processes, and engineering capabilities.
- A high-tech environment with short decision paths – where good ideas can quickly become working solutions.
We are building technology that has to perform when it matters!
