About This Role
Hi! I'm Agry, technical co-founder at Nejo. We’re building a job search platform that's fundamentally different from anything else in the market. We've already attracted over 250,000 users in our beta phase, and now we're looking for an experienced Software Engineer who's excited about transforming how people find their next career opportunity.
What makes Nejo special is our approach to job search - we're not just another job board. We're building intelligent systems that understand both candidates and positions at the deepest level possible. Our users tell us they finally have a platform that "gets" what they're looking for.
As a Software Engineer, you'll own critical features that make Nejo the only job platform candidates want to use - from our intelligent search (that goes waaay beyond the status quo) to AI-assisted interactions and many other features that users have already requested along the entire lifecycle of job search.
What Nejo Gives You
You get to build something that actually matters. We're solving a real problem that affects millions of people in their professional lives. You'll work in an environment where speed of learning trumps perfection, where your ideas can go from concept to production quickly, and where you'll see the direct impact of your work through user feedback and data.
You'll be part of a team where everyone owns their decisions, speaks their mind, and puts the company's success first. We're not here to micromanage - we're here to build something exceptional together.
Our benefits go beyond the traditional package. We offer extreme transparency, genuine ownership, direct work with founders, and regular communication with actual users of a growing company. You'll be able to significantly move the needle every single day - the kind of impact that's rare outside of founding your own company.
We also believe in true flexibility. Need the rest of the week off to recharge? Of course! It doesn't matter how much you work but how much you move the needle. Results over hours, always.
<h2>Tasks</h2>
About Our Engineering Approach
We believe that building a 10x better product starts with understanding our users deeply. Our engineering approach reflects this:
We build based on evidence, not opinions. Every feature we ship starts with user impact estimation and ends with data validation. "You think" always yields to "Users show." Everyone at Nejo is expected to immerse themselves in our users' world, regardless of their role.
We move fast. The fastest learner takes the market. When in doubt, we ship it out and iterate based on real feedback. Fast beats perfect, though we recognize when quality needs to take priority.
We use AI intelligently - not just in our product but in our workflows. We understand both the capabilities and limitations of AI-supported development, and we use it to accelerate our work without compromising on quality.
Communication is KEY. Sharing an opinion is not optional but required. We need someone ready to speak their mind.
<h2>Requirements</h2>
Why You Should (or Shouldn't) Apply
Apply If:
<ul>
<li>You're excited about creating search and recommendation systems that deliver significant value to every person searching for a new job</li>
<li>You understand and appreciate the upside of owning company equity</li>
<li>You have a proven track record of professionally developing and delivering software</li>
<li>You're very comfortable with React webapps, TypeScript, and Python, with a willingness to dive as deep as necessary. Experience with Next.js is a plus. </li>
<li>Experience with vector databases and recommendation algorithms is a plus</li>
<li>You make decisions based on data and clear hypotheses, not gut feelings</li>
<li>You have strong opinions, weakly held, and seek to back opinions with evidence</li>
<li>You're comfortable with LLMs, AI-assisted coding and understand efficient prompting</li>
<li>You take ownership and don't need someone telling you what to do next</li>
<li>You believe in shipping quickly, getting feedback, and iterating</li>
<li>You think daily standups are a gigantic waste of time</li>
<li>You’re fluent in either German or English</li>
</ul>
Don't Apply If:
<ul>
<li>You need detailed specifications before starting work</li>
<li>You prefer fully specified Jira tickets and a product roadmap locked in weeks ahead</li>
<li>You optimize for personal comfort over team success</li>
<li>You want a fully remote position (we're based in Vienna)</li>
<li>You prefer well-established processes over adaptability and speed</li>
<li>You're hesitant to share your opinions or provide feedback</li>
</ul>
<h2>Benefits</h2>
Our Work Environment
We work from our Vienna office not because we have to, but because we enjoy collaborating in person. Work from home is possible and entirely self-directed - you decide whether it's in the company's best interest for you to work from home or the office on any given day based on your tasks and needs.
We don't do daily standups or unnecessary meetings. We focus on outcomes rather than hours spent. Radical transparency means you'll always know where the company stands and what we're aiming for next.
We've built a team that genuinely cares about each other while also caring deeply about our business. These things aren't mutually exclusive at Nejo. We're extremely supportive of each other and care about each team member's wellbeing and growth. Our workplace feels more like a group of friends working on a shared mission than traditional colleagues.
Company equity will be part of your compensation package.
Interview Process
We keep our interview process straightforward and respectful of your time:
<ol>
<li>Initial conversation with a founder to discuss your background and our vision</li>
<li>Technical discussion where we'll talk through problems, we're solving including a practical exercise that mirrors the actual work you'd do at Nejo</li>
<li>Final meeting with the team to ensure mutual fit</li>
</ol>
We promise feedback at every stage and aim to move quickly - we know great candidates have options.
Nejo is committed to building a diverse team. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who connect with our mission and values. If you're excited about transforming how people find jobs, we want to hear from you.
