This is a remote, flexible, assignment-based academic service role. It is unpaid and does not constitute employment.

Tasks

Review scholarly manuscripts that match your subject expertise and provide independent, constructive, and confidential feedback.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate the originality, relevance, methodology, clarity, and scholarly contribution of manuscripts.
  • Provide respectful, evidence-based comments to authors.
  • Submit a clear recommendation to the journal editor.
  • Assess whether conclusions are supported by the research findings.
  • Identify possible methodological, ethical, citation, plagiarism, or research-integrity concerns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality throughout the review process.
  • Disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest.
  • Complete accepted reviews within the agreed timeframe.
  • Follow the journal’s peer-review and publication-ethics policies.

Reviewers may accept or decline each invitation depending on their expertise, availability, and conflicts of interest. No minimum number of reviews is guaranteed.

Requirements

Applicants should have relevant academic, research, clinical, technical, or professional expertise.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree, professional degree, master’s degree, or substantial equivalent experience
  • Experience in research, higher education, healthcare, engineering, technology, business, industry, or another relevant field
  • Authorship or co-authorship of scholarly publications
  • Strong analytical and critical-evaluation skills
  • Ability to provide clear, professional, and constructive feedback in English
  • Understanding of research methods and scholarly publishing
  • Commitment to confidentiality, impartiality, publication ethics, and research integrity
  • Ability to complete accepted assignments within agreed deadlines

Previous peer-review experience is preferred but not required for suitably qualified applicants.

  • Applicants should provide a current CV or résumé and, where available, an ORCID, Google Scholar, institutional, Scopus, Web of Science, or comparable professional profile.

Benefits

This is an unpaid volunteer academic-service opportunity.
Subject to satisfactory completion of assigned reviews, participants may receive:

  • Reviewer certificates for completed reviews
  • Formal acknowledgement of reviewing contributions
  • Flexible participation based on expertise and availability
  • Experience evaluating current research in their discipline
  • Opportunities to support scholarly quality and research integrity
  • Consideration for future editorial-board opportunities
