Do you know how to turn complex medical technology into clear, practical instructions? In this hands-on leadership role, you will guide a small team while creating user manuals, Instructions for Use (IFUs), and supporting documentation for medical devices used by healthcare professionals worldwide.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a small team of technical writers
- Write, edit, and maintain user manuals, IFUs, quick-reference guides, and other end-user documentation
- Translate complex hardware, software, clinical workflows, and engineering specifications into clear, user-friendly instructions
- Structure content around real user tasks, product workflows, and safety-critical information
- Ensure that warnings, precautions, operating instructions, and troubleshooting content are accurate and easy to understand
- Work closely with Engineering, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Product Management, and other subject-matter experts
- Review documentation for clarity, consistency, usability, terminology, and technical accuracy
- Coordinate document reviews, approvals, translations, releases, and updates throughout the product lifecycle
- Manage several documentation projects, priorities, timelines, and deliverables
- Ensure that end-user documentation meets internal quality standards and applicable medical-device requirements
- Improve documentation templates, content structures, authoring processes, and writing guidelines
Your Profile
- Proven experience writing user manuals, IFUs, or comparable end-user documentation for complex products
- Experience in medical devices, medical technology, healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated industry is highly desirable
- Strong ability to explain technical and safety-related information clearly to non-technical users
- Excellent writing, editing, information-structuring, and terminology-management skills
- Native-level English and the ability to write clear, precise US English
- German language skills or a willingness to learn German
- Previous experience leading a team, coordinating writers, or managing documentation projects
- Confidence working with engineers, clinical specialists, regulatory experts, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
- Experience with XML-based content management systems, ideally ST4
- Knowledge of FrameMaker, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat
- An understanding of illustrations, information design, or visual instructions is a plus
