Cellcraft® is a B2B cultivated meat company based in Cambridge tackling global food security and sustainability challenges. Our AI-driven bioelectronic technology powers the Cellcraft® Farm: an end-to-end, scalable Cultivated Meat (CM) Manufacturing Platform to empower food producers to make their own delectable, sustainable cultivated meats locally. Cellcraft is the world’s first cultivated meat company with a focus on software and analytics. We believe the future of meat must be both sustainable and irresistible.

As a Bioprocess Engineer, you will play a key role in developing, optimising, and scaling bioreactor-based processes for cultivated meat production. You will be adaptable and able to handle a range of cross-functional projects in other functional areas including cell line and media development, assay development, and downstream processing, to ensure robust, efficient, and scalable production systems.

Cellcraft is a fast-paced environment. You must be a problem solver capable of applying initiative who enjoys seeing their ideas come to fruition.

Tasks

  • Design and execute bioprocess experiments for the development and optimisation of single cell and aggregate cell cultivation in stirred tank and 3D bioreactors.
  • Develop and implement process control strategies (pH, dissolved oxygen, feed strategies, agitation, etc.) to maintain robust cell growth and differentiation.
  • Lead maintenance and suspension adaptation of cell lines to enable scalable bioprocessing.
  • Support translation of laboratory-scale processes into scalable, manufacturable systems.
  • Support process transfer, scale-up, and tech transfer to manufacturing partners.
  • Analyse process data, generate technical reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to, and evaluate bioreactor system design, including hardware, sensors, and automation integration.
  • Ensure processes comply with food safety and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Required experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • A PhD or equivalent industrial experience in cell culture, bioprocessing, fermentation, or related biomanufacturing environments.
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience in setting up and operating stirred tank bioreactors in cell therapy, biologics, or food biotech.
  • Proven hands-on expertise in aseptic adherent and suspension cell culture techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of mammalian cell biology, growth kinetics, bioreactor design, and process scale-up.
  • Hands-on experience with bench-scale bioreactors
  • Strong knowledge of measurement, optimisation, and scaling of bioreactor parameters including mass transfer (kLa), pH, temperature, agitation (tip speed, power input), shear force, metabolomics etc.
  • Experience with process analytical technologies (PAT), automation, and process modelling
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Passion for sustainable food and advancing cultivated meat technologies.

Desirable experience:

  • Design and operation of continuous perfusion within bioreactor systems
  • Culture of induced pluripotent stem cells and other immortalised cell lines
  • Knowledge of myogenic and adipogenic differentiation
  • Tissue engineering including 3D organotypic culture.
  • Experience with media and cell line development
  • Understanding of computational modelling of fluid dynamics, cell growth and other phenomena within bioreactors
  • Sourcing and procurement of materials and equipment for bioreactors

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and stock options
  • Private health Insurance
  • Potential for excellent career progression
  • Exposure to an up-and-coming disruptive and innovative market
  • Opportunity to be at the forefront of the cultivated meat industry and make a tangible impact on global sustainability.
