(Senior) Backend Engineer Remote

Why this role exists:

We are looking for an experienced backend engineer who has previously built or scaled backend systems with complex data models and external integrations. Our platform is already in production, but as usage grows, the complexity of our data architecture, integrations, and access control is increasing.

This role is an opportunity to shape the backend architecture of the platform, from database design and API structure to authentication and integration patterns, as we evolve toward an enterprise-grade system.

Challenges you'll work on

• Designing a flexible multi-tenant data architecture supporting multiple customer integrations and evolving workflows.
• Building reliable integration pipelines for ERP and accounting systems with varying schemas and constraints.
• Evolving authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Turning an early-stage system into an enterprise-grade platform.
• Designing backend services that reliably process customer documents and structured data pipelines.

What you’ll do

• Design and evolve the backend architecture of our multi-tenant SaaS platform.
• Build and improve APIs and services powering document processing workflows, integrations, and internal platform logic.
• Design robust data models in PostgreSQL that support multi-tenant environments, complex workflows, and customer-specific integrations.
• Work directly with the founders to shape the architecture of the platform as it evolves toward an enterprise-grade system.
• Integrate external systems such as ERP platforms and accounting tools via APIs and event-driven workflows.
• Improve authentication and authorization mechanisms, including RBAC and SSO integrations.
• Introduce engineering best practices across the backend stack, including testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring.
• Work directly with the founders to shape the architecture of the platform as it evolves toward an enterprise-grade system.

You're a good fit if you:

• Have at least 5 years of Backend working experience.
• Have experience in building and operating backend systems in production.
• Have designed database schemas and backend architectures for complex business workflows.
• Have strong backend fundamentals and experience building APIs and backend services.
• Are comfortable working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and designing data models for complex workflows.
• Understand authentication and authorization concepts such as RBAC, OAuth, and SSO.
• Care about writing clean, maintainable code and improving engineering processes.
• Enjoy working closely with product and founders to rapidly iterate on real customer problems.
• Are proactive, pragmatic, and comfortable taking ownership in a small engineering team.

Nice to have

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience designing systems that process or structure documents and large datasets.
• Experience improving engineering maturity (testing, CI/CD, observability).
