A Chef is a talented individual who has a deep understanding of ingredients, the way they work together, and how to combine and prepare them to make delicious dishes. They will have a strong understanding of food safety processes, including how to clean and sanitize surfaces and store different types of food safely.
Essential parts of a Chef’s job description:
- Chefs will work closely with Sous Chefs and Head Chefs to learn the menu these team members have crafted. They will become experts in preparing these dishes, and remain up to date on any changes.
- They will also work with Waitresses/Waiters to ensure dishes meet the customers in a timely manner and deal with any special requests or questions.
- Depending on the business, Chefs may take part in menu creation, offering advice or commentary when needed.
- Chefs can work in restaurants, cafés, hotels, on cruise ships, and for catering companies.
