Job Intro

You will be a part of a global team developing and expanding our Trade facilitation offering (TLIP) and driving our design strategy for onboarding of new clients and partners globally - including governments and large industry players. We have an established ecosystem of internationally recognised organisations including the Institute of Export & International Trade and the IOTA Foundation who are collaborating on this programme.

TLIP is architected on IOTA’s decentralized infrastructure technology enabling governments and businesses to exchange trade data in a secure and trusted manner. Already live in Kenya where the TLIP platform is integrated into the government systems it is used by large and small organisations to streamline their international trader administration and processes. The next phase of our programme will expand TLIP into international markets with the UK and EU our primary focus.

The digitalisation of today’s fragmented paper-based international trade procedures, with platforms such as TLIP, increase efficiency and reduce the cost of access to international markets. Developing economies and small trader communities stand to benefit significantly with increased access to new markets which stimulate local growth and job creation. The increasing focus on management of the environmental impact of international trade can also be more effectively monitored and regulated through a digital trade capability. More information can be found here:

The core principles of TLIP incorporate a focus on supporting emerging economies using a not-for-profit governing foundation and access to code via Open Source principles. We have recently signed a collaboration agreement with 5 international organisations to form the board of the TLIP foundation; partners include World Economic Forum, Trademark Africa, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, etc. See more here:

Large companies and governments engage with TLIP through open APIs, but supply chains are characterized by a large number of small and middle sized companies - both in the Northern and Southern hemispheres - that will work through web-based and mobile applications.

As our lead designer, you will be involved in designing, testing and delivering new products and services, working closely with the wider TLIP technical team. You will bring a background in UI/UX design. You will be leading the design process from early stage product requirement definition, mock-ups, wireframes, and testing with users and right through to the final product. You will also bring passion and focus to the team and our partners that are building the future digital infrastructure of international trade. Getting the product design right means a scalable onboarding model that can impact countries, economic development opportunities and climate change measures. We do have some UX skills in house and we are also engaging external consultants - you will be leading and developing our strategy and team to scale our growth.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in brand identity, product development, graphic design and UI/UX ideation.Furthermore, experience from international trade, B2B, and digitisation of supply chains are all plusses.

The TLIP technical team consists of 11 people in Kenya, 5 people in Europe, collaboration support from IOTA Foundation’s 120+ employees and the Institute of Export & International Trade’s 200 employees, and the team is growing.

The role is open to candidates in Europe or the UK. The candidate will be expected to work remotely and must be open to travel for meetings and workshops.
